Stuttgart slows down Cologne

Stuttgart is the only team celebrating this Bundesliga Sunday. The Swabians prevailed against Cologne. The remaining matches all ended in draws. Hoffenheim fans caused some unpleasant scenes before kickoff.

Without their suspended head coach Steffen Baumgart, 1. FC Union Berlin were unable to defeat Bundesliga returnees Hamburger SV. The Irons had to settle for a 0-0 draw in the first ever top-flight meeting between the two clubs, thus missing out on a move into the top third of the table. HSV remains just above the relegation zone after picking up their second away point.

In contrast to the thunderous 4-3 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, the Berlin attack of Oliver Burke, Ilyas Ansah, and Andrej Ilic was largely ineffective this time. Ilic also failed to convert a penalty against HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes in the 10th minute. In stoppage time, Hamburg's Fabio Vieira was shown the red card (90+8) for an outstretched leg on Leopold Querfeld. The Portuguese injured himself in the action and was only able to leave the pitch with the help of his team's assistants.

VfB Stuttgart dampens Cologne's euphoria

VfB Stuttgart dampened the euphoria of newly promoted 1. FC Köln and closed the gap to the top of the Bundesliga. The cup winners prevailed 2-1 in a hard-fought match and moved up to fifth place in the table with nine points. Köln remains on seven points after their second defeat in a row.

In front of 50.000 spectators, Jakub Kaminski gave the hosts the lead in the 4th minute, which Ermedin Demirovic (28') equalized with a penalty before halftime. After the break, Josha Vagnoman scored the winning goal for the Swabians (81').

Hoffenheim fans attack police

At SC Freiburg's away game against TSG Hoffenheim, unpleasant scenes occurred even before kickoff: On the journey by regional train, Hoffenheim fans clashed with Freiburg supporters. According to the federal police, some Hoffenheim fans subsequently verbally and physically attacked accompanying officers. Four police officers were slightly injured. At Herbolzheim station, police stopped the train, took the personal details of more than 90 Hoffenheim fans, and prevented them from continuing to the stadium. Investigations have been launched against several suspects.

In a match with few chances, the two clubs drew 1-1 on Sunday and are currently seventh (Freiburg) and ninth (Hoffenheim) with seven points each. Freiburg got off to a lightning start. Junior Adamu assisted Lukas Kübler before the 1-0 goal. The joy was short-lived, as Fisnik Asllani equalized just nine minutes later with his fourth goal of the season. After that, little happened.
