“A legend” wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur

South Korea's most famous football star, Heung-Min Son, plans to leave English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur after ten years. The 33-year-old attacker announced this at a press conference in Seoul, where the team is currently preparing for the new Premier League season.

Son enjoys cult status among the London club's fans, but the captain's contract expires in a year - so Tottenham would have to sell him before then to get a transfer fee.

"This was one of the most difficult decisions of my career," Son said, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap. He left open where his future will take him. However, rumors of Son's departure have been circulating for some time: According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a possible move to the North American Major League Soccer is on the table. Negotiations with Los Angeles FC are already underway.

Son won Tottenham's first title in 17 years

Son moved to London from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015 and made 333 Premier League appearances for Spurs, scoring 127 goals. At the end of May, he and the team won the Europa League. It was Tottenham's first title in 17 years.

Son said Spurs supported his desire to move this summer. Manager Thomas Frank said: "He's a Spurs legend in every sense of the word." He believes Son is one of the best wingers the Premier League has ever seen. "I think it's probably the perfect time to leave on a high."
