England international suffers stroke

England international soccer player Ellie Roebuck has suffered a stroke. The 24-year-old Manchester City goalkeeper surprisingly announced this on social media on Sunday.

Roebuck said she suffered no permanent damage. Thanks to specialist medical support at Man City, she is now on the mend. In the current season she was not used in the league for Man City and England.

“Unfortunately, I haven’t felt well for some time,” explained Roebuck, who, according to the English Football Association (FA), has played eleven international matches for the Lionesses so far. Examinations revealed she had suffered a left occipital infarction, which can cause double vision, headaches and loss of balance.

Comeback date unknown

“Fortunately, there is no permanent damage to my brain function or my eyesight,” reported the national player. After weeks of follow-up examinations and special treatments, things are now looking up for her. “It's great to be with the girls again, to work on my rehabilitation and, above all, to feel like normal Ellie again.” She is now looking forward to her comeback on the field. The date is open.
