Star English striker banned for 8 months

Ivan Toney has been banned for eight months for violating the English Football Association's (FA) betting rules in well over 200 cases.

The 27-year-old attacker from Premier League club Brentford FC was also fined £50.000 by the FA and given a warning.

Toney can take part in training at his club again four months before the ban expires, according to a statement from the FA on Wednesday. The ban is otherwise valid until January 16th next year.

Third top scorer in the Premier League

The 262 violations originally alleged related to a period from February 25, 2017 to January 23, 2021. 30 violations were subsequently withdrawn by the FA, but there were still 232 violations. Toney has been playing for Brentford since September 2020. He has already scored 20 goals this Premier League season, making him the third best goalscorer in the league.
