Although his contract was valid until 2027, both sides agreed to an earlier departure. The Egyptian is one of the club's greatest players. The two-time African Footballer of the Year celebrated winning the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019, two English league titles in 2020 and 2025, as well as the FA Cup and the League Cup twice.
Earlier this season, there had been turmoil surrounding the club when Salah complained about his lack of playing time and, after a furious outburst against the club and coach Arne Slot, was dropped from the Champions League squad for the match against Inter Milan. Shortly afterwards, he was reinstated in the league before joining the Egyptian national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.
