After accident: Former England star charged

Former England football player Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide following an accident involving his Lamborghini.

He also allegedly refused to provide a sample for drug testing. Sterling is expected to appear in court in Basingstoke on September 15, the British news agency PA reported.

The 31-year-old crashed his car into a guardrail on May 28th without any other vehicles being involved and was subsequently temporarily arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. According to police, no one was injured in the incident.

Felt “worthless” and “forgotten”

A source close to Sterling explained at the time that the footballer had been through "extremely difficult years" and had recently felt "worthless" and "forgotten." Sterling was under contract with Chelsea until January, but had not played for them and had not been training with the first team. He is now without a club.

Sterling moved from Manchester City to London in the summer of 2022 for over €50 million and was originally under contract there until mid-2027. He won the English league title four times with City. Sterling made 82 appearances for the England national team, including the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup and the final of Euro 2020.
