West Ham keeper taken off the field on a stretcher

Terrible scene at the Premier League match between Southampton FC and West Ham United (0:1): Guest goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski had to be substituted after a collision and taken off the field on a stretcher.

The 39-year-old apparently suffered a head injury. The injury initially appeared to be "worrying," the club said. However, Fabianski was able to sit on the bench again in the second half.

Fabianski had apparently been elbowed in the face by opponent Nathan Wood after a corner kick after just under half an hour. The 57-time Polish international goalkeeper was treated on the pitch for several minutes. Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale also rushed over from the other side to ask about him. Fabianski was eventually replaced by Alphonse Aréola and escorted off to the applause of the spectators.
