Rape: PSG star faces trial

The French judiciary wants to bring Moroccan international football player Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain to court on charges of rape.

The public prosecutor in Nanterre has requested charges against the 26-year-old player, the newspaper reported Le Parisien and the transmitter RMC Sport with reference to the authorities. The player's lawyer, Fanny Colin, told the broadcaster that Hakimi denies the allegations and has nothing to reproach himself for. An investigating judge must now decide whether there will be a trial.

A 24-year-old woman told police in February 2023 that she had been raped by Hakimi. Although the woman reportedly did not file a complaint, due to the serious nature of the allegation, police informed the public prosecutor's office, which launched an investigation.

Hakimi, who also played for Borussia Dortmund and Inter, was placed under judicial supervision. PSG supported its player following the allegations. Le Parisien wrote, Hakimi portrayed the woman's allegations as an attempt to extort money from him.
