The traditional Innsbruck club is back

FC Wacker Innsbruck secured the championship title in Mils in front of 1200 fans - the majority of them Wacker supporters - with a 4-2 win in the top game of the Tyrolean League (5th division).

1200 spectators didn't miss the big game between league leaders Wacker Innsbruck and second-placed teams in Mils. In pouring rain, the green-blacks celebrated a 4-2 victory and are now champions with 4 rounds to go.

Promotion to the Regionalliga Tirol had already been confirmed on Tuesday, as third-placed Mayrhofen suffered a 2-4 defeat against Breitenbach. As a reminder: The first 2 of the Hypo Tirol League are promoted.

By the way, there is a South Tyrolean on the coaching bench of the traditional Innsbruck club: Natzer Fabian Lantschner forms the coaching duo together with Sebastian Siller.

Step by step back into professional football

Wacker Innsbruck, ten times Austrian champions, has mutated into a chaos club in recent years. After bankruptcy in the summer of 2022, the cult club even had to be relegated from the 2nd division to the Tyrolean league. After finishing 7th last season, they finally achieved confident promotion. The Regionalliga Tirol (4th performance level) should only be a stopover, the next goal is promotion to the Regionalliga West. Wacker wants to return to professional football step by step.
