First title in 61 years: LASK in a frenzy of jubilation

The long wait is over for LASK. The Linz-based team secured the Austrian Cup title on Friday with a 4-2 victory after extra time against SCR Altach.

It is the first trophy for the athletes since winning the double in 1965. LASK had lost six final matches since 1965.

Americans George Bello (101st minute) and Samuel Adeniran (103rd minute) scored the decisive goals in extra time in front of 22.000 spectators at the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt. Altach, appearing in their first-ever cup final, had twice taken the lead through Patrick Greil (5th minute) and Vesel Demaku (30th minute). Moses Usor (11th minute) and Adeniran (66th minute) each equalized.

For LASK coach Dietmar Kühbauer, it was his second consecutive cup title, following his victory with WAC last year. As cup winners, LASK can now plan for participation in the Europa League qualifiers. They are currently leading the league title race.
