After the derby victory: Whirl after “A****loch-Sager” from Rapid-Boss

SK-Rapid managing director Steffen Hofmann has apologized after a verbal derailment after the derby, which was victorious for Hütteldorfer.

In a video excerpt circulating on the Internet you can see how the ex-professional used a megaphone to address his fans during a speech against his city rivals (“assholes”). Hofmann said in an official statement: “The words were not intended for the public, but were inappropriate regardless.”

The joy of the derby victory would remain, “as would my regret about the choice of words. “So I would like to apologize for that, despite all the rivalry, that was and is not appropriate,” Hofmann continued. He had already apologized to Austria on Monday in the person of (sports director, editor's note) Manuel Ortlechner.

Austria Vienna published a statement on Monday evening saying it had taken note of Hofmann's apology. “We don’t want to add more fuel to the fire. At the same time, we congratulate you on yesterday's well-deserved derby victory.” Insults and denigration of any kind would clearly contradict the club's code of conduct. “We are proud of Favoriten and see ourselves as having deep roots with our fans in all districts of the city of Vienna,” it said.

Rapid beat Austria 3-0 on Sunday. It was the first ever derby success in the Allianz Stadium, which opened eight years ago.
