Mathias Theiner wore the jersey of Austria Salzburg, the original club from Mozart's city, 160 times. On Sunday, May 8th, the South Tyrolean defender's time with the professional Austrian club came to an end.
"Theini always gave 2 percent and fully identified with Austria. It was great to see him establish himself even in the second division," said chairman David Rettenbacher, thanking the South Tyrolean. Theini made 22 appearances for Austria Salzburg in Austria's second-highest league last season. He scored one goal in the 4-2 victory against Rapid II.
The destination for Theiner, who comes from Laatsch in the Upper Vinschgau region, is still undecided. The 27-year-old South Tyrolean footballer is currently in talks with several clubs in the Salzburg area.
