FCS Women make a furious start to the second half of the season

FCS Women made a clear statement at the start of the second half of the Serie C season and defended their second place in the table.

In their away match against Dolomiti Bellunesi, coach Marco Castellaneta's team secured a 4-0 victory at the Comunale in Seren del Grappa. The opening goal came in the 16th minute: Alexandra Stockner won the ball and played in Katharina Pföstl, who made it 1-0. After the break, Pföstl doubled the lead with a long-range shot (52nd minute). Just four minutes later, the score became 3-0: Following a corner, Annalena Santin failed to get a shot away, Nicole Ruaben controlled the ball and fired a volley into the top corner (56th minute).

Stockner sealed the final score in the 73rd minute after Ranja Fischer broke through on the wing and crossed into the middle. In the closing stages, Valentina Quadrio had two further opportunities to add to the scoreline, but narrowly missed the target.

Defeats for Schroffenegger and Nischler

Two leagues higher, Katja Schroffenegger and Nadine Nischler, both from South Tyrol, were in action. However, both suffered defeats on the 11th matchday of Serie A. Como's forward Nischler started the match against second-placed Inter and saw her team take the lead twice thanks to goals from Zara Kramzar (36th/56th minute). But Tessa Wullaert (48th minute) and Haley Bugeja (61st minute) brought the Nerazzurri back into the game on both occasions. Deep into stoppage time, Como suffered a devastating blow: Elisa Polli scored to give Inter a 3-2 victory.

Meanwhile, Schroffenegger was in goal for Terni against Milan – and had to pick the ball out of his net three times on Sunday. Against the fifth-placed team, there was nothing to be gained in the 0-3 defeat, and Terni remains at the bottom of Serie A with seven points. On Monday evening, national team player Eva Schatzer will be in action at home with Juventus against Parma (6:00 PM).
