FCS Women sensationally reach the final

FC Südtirol Women beat Gatteo Mare 3-1 away on the artificial turf pitch of the “Comunale Nanni” in Bellaria, thus advancing to the play-off final for promotion to Serie B – another historic milestone in the club's history.

The Red and Whites were forced to win in the third of the four semi-final groups of the final round, as they were second in Group B of the regular season and faced the leader of Group C, and a draw would have been enough for the latter to reach the final due to their better final position in the standings of their respective leagues.

Roma initially took the lead: in the 12th minute, Paolinelli curled a free kick from just outside the penalty area into the top corner to make it 1-0. But the visitors responded immediately: in the 23rd minute, Stockner played in Pföstl, who unleashed a long-range shot that slipped through the Gatteo goalkeeper's hands and into the net for the equalizer. The momentum shifted to the visitors, who turned the game around before halftime: Pföstl chipped a free kick from distance to make it 2-1 (37').

After the break, the FCS player completed her hat trick, once again from a direct set piece, effectively sealing the victory: this time Pföstl curled a free kick from the edge of the penalty area over the wall towards goal, where Aliquo could get a touch on the ball but couldn't quite manage to claw it out of the top corner (69'). Overall, a well-deserved away win for the FCS women, who put on a highly convincing performance and had further chances to score through Fischer and Stockner.

The opponent is yet to be determined.

As previously mentioned, the Red and Whites finished the regular season in Group B of Serie C in second place (behind Orobica Calcio Bergamo), thus earning the right to the playoffs for promotion to the second Italian women's league (as did all the winners of the four groups and all other group runners-up). Only two teams will ultimately make the jump to Serie B. In semifinal match 3, they secured an away win against Gatteo Mare, who, as winners of Group C, would have also needed a draw after 90 minutes to advance to the final. However, the visitors, forced to win, achieved precisely that result.

The two final matches for promotion to Serie B will take place on Sunday, May 24th, at 10:30 AM and 15:30 PM at the "Centro Sportivo Francesca Gianni" of Atletico Lodigiani in Via Casale di San Basilio, Rome. FCS Women's opponent will be determined by a draw next Wednesday, May 13th. In addition to the Red and Whites, Catania (1-0 home win against Real Meda), Moncalieri Women (2-0 vs. Salernitana Women), and Orobica Calcio Bergamo (0-0 against Nuova Alba, advancing to the finals due to their superior position at the end of the regular season) have also qualified for the finals.
