Fiorentina also suffers a defeat in the cup.

Things just aren't going well for Fiorentina. They're stuck in the relegation zone in Serie A, and now they've suffered a heavy defeat in the Coppa Italia as well.

The traditional club from Florence suffered a 1-3 defeat against league rivals Como in the cup round of 16. The evening, which was dedicated to the memory of the late Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso, ended at the Stadio Artemio Franchi with a deafening chorus of boos from the irate fans.

Just three days after their home league defeat against Cagliari, the third-from-bottom team in Serie A squandered an early 1-0 lead (striker Roberto Piccoli scored in the 7th minute) and ultimately slid into another heavy defeat. Sergi Roberto (20th minute) initially equalized for Como, but in the second half, exceptional talent Nico Paz (60th minute) and veteran Álvaro Morata (91st minute) secured the victory for the visitors.

Como will face reigning champions Napoli in the next round, who had previously defeated Cagliari 2-1. The other quarter-final matches, all of which will be played in early February, are: Inter-Torino, Atalanta-Juventus, and Bologna-Lazio.
