Obermais meets Chievo: “They are professionals”

After the away win against Caldiero, FC Obermais will face Chievo Verona in the Coppa Italia (Sunday, 16 p.m.). The former Serie A club will be arriving in the Lahn region with a host of celebrities.

The most important thing for FC Obermais: The match against Chievo Verona will take place on the Lahn River. Making the home ground suitable for Serie D required a major effort over the summer. The stands had to be rebuilt, a guest section installed, and the interior (including a referee's booth) redesigned. The home opener was planned for mid-September with a clash against Mestre.

The fact that it's happening two weeks earlier is also thanks to the municipality of Merano, which has actively supported the association. "People often complain about politics. We can report the opposite. This wouldn't have been possible without the municipality's help," says a grateful Christian Platzer.

Obermais focuses on the start of the championship

Chievo comes on Sunday with well-known actors to Obermais. On the pitch, the team is led by Alberto Paloschi, with former Chievo player Fabrizio Cacciatore calling the shots as coach. The club's president is Sergio Pellissier, who refounded Chievo after its financial ruin in 2021 – originally as FC Clivense. "They're a professional club, which is completely different from us," says Platzer, adding as proof: "Chievo was in training camp for three weeks this summer."

For Obermais, the clash against Verona is the first highlight of the season. However, the focus remains on the league opener in a week's time. For example, attacking talent Tizian Stecher was rested last week, and they're not taking any risks against Chievo either. New signing Steve Tchokokam will be given a test in goal. Even players who are behind on training, like Moritz Tschöll, will be able to get playing time. Long-term injured Martin Prantl, Axel Leitner, Jan Pichler, and Philipp Ploner are not an issue.
