The Coppa Italia third-round matches are currently underway. FC Südtirol is also fighting for advancement in this round. However, their match against Serie A club Genoa is not scheduled until September 15th. Udinese and Sassuolo already secured their places in the next round on Wednesday.
In the early afternoon, Sassuolo hosted Frosinone in Reggio Emilia, who had caused a sensation with a 3-0 away win against Fiorentina at the weekend. Massimiliano Alvini's team also demonstrated their quality against Sassuolo, but lost 3-4 on penalties.
Udinese wins thanks to a brace
Sassuolo striker Benjamin Dominguez opened the scoring in the 36th minute, before Aleksa Terzic leveled the score just before halftime. Both sides had chances after that, but no further goals were scored, so the game went to penalties without extra time. After the first six penalty takers all converted their spot kicks, Wisdom Amey and Luis Hasa missed.
