Penalty missed in the 99th minute: pure drama for Milan

AC Milan experienced a total rollercoaster of emotions on matchday 19 of Serie A. In the end, the Rossoneri still stumbled.

Second-placed Milan against 17th-placed Genoa – normally a straightforward affair. But that wasn't the case on Thursday. Milan, the favorites, were seriously shaken in their home game against the bottom-of-the-table side and ultimately had to be content with a 1-1 draw, securing a point. The final minutes were filled with chaotic scenes.

For a long time, it looked like an upset was in the making at the San Siro. Lorenzo Colombo had put Genoa ahead 1-0 after 28 minutes. Despite Milan's overwhelming dominance, this lead held until the second minute of stoppage time. Then Rafael Leao sent the stadium into raptures when he headed home the equalizer from a corner. Milan subsequently pushed for the win, but suddenly Genoa had it within their grasp.

After a counter-attack, Genoa's Mikael Egill Ellertsson was brought down in the Milan penalty area by Davide Bartesaghi, resulting in a penalty! Substitute Nicolae Stanciu stepped up to take it – and spectacularly blasted the ball over the bar. A missed penalty in the 99th minute: It doesn't get more dramatic than that! For Milan, however, it's two points dropped: League leaders and city rivals Inter are now three points ahead.
