In Rome, they still dream of the Champions League.

On Monday evening, AS Roma secured a well-deserved 2-0 home victory against Cagliari Calcio and can therefore continue to hope for a top-4 finish.

In the 2017/18 season, AS Roma last qualified for the Champions League. After several years' absence from Europe's premier club competition, fans of the capital club are dreaming of returning to the tournament this season. In their home match against Cagliari, the "Giallorossi" took another step towards a top-four finish. In a one-sided affair, winter signing Donyell Malen scored twice, single-handedly deciding the game. Roma now sit level on points with fourth-placed Juventus in the league table.

Atalanta also wins.

Just a few hours earlier, Champions League participant Atalanta Bergamo hosted Cremonese. The in-form Lombards, who had picked up points in their last six matches and defeated Juventus Turin in the cup last week, prevailed 2-1. Raffaele Palladino's team needed only a strong start to secure the three points. Nikola Krstovic (13th minute) and Davide Zappacosta (25th minute) gave the hosts an early lead. Morten Thorsby's consolation goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time came too late.

Serie A: Monday's results:

Atalanta Bergamo - Cremonese 2-1

1:0 Krstovic (13th), 2:0 Zappacosta (25th), 2:1 Thorsby (90th)

AS Roma - Cagliari 2:0
1-0 draw (25th), 2-0 draw (65th)
