Inter consolidates lead in the table – humiliation for Juventus

Inter Milan secured their lead in Italy's Serie A with an away win on Saturday. Juventus suffered a heavy defeat later that evening.

Inter Milan won 1-0 away at Udinese in the 21st round of matches, with Lautaro Martinez scoring the only goal (20th minute). Inter have now earned 25 out of a possible 27 points in their last nine league games. Cristian Chivu's team now have a six-point lead over second-placed city rivals AC Milan, who host Lecce on Sunday evening.

Reigning champions Napoli, after a 1-0 home win against Sassuolo, are also six points behind Inter and thus sit in third place. Stanislav Lobotka scored the winning goal in the seventh minute.

Juventus suffered their first defeat of the new year, losing 1-0 to Cagliari, who currently sit 15th in the table. Luca Mazzitelli scored the decisive goal in the 65th minute. Juventus now trail Inter by ten points.
