In their rescheduled 16th-round match, Milan defeated the team of Spanish World and European champions Cesc Fabregas 3-1. This triumph, however, was hard-fought. Especially in the first half, Milan's penalty area was under constant threat, and Max Allegri's team had goalkeeper Mike Maignan to thank for keeping the score at only 0-1. Marc-Oliver Kempf opened the scoring with a header after just ten minutes.
Kempf was once again in the spotlight just before the halftime whistle when he brought down Milan midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the penalty area. A penalty was awarded to the second-placed team, but it sparked a row. Rafael Leao wanted to take the spot kick, but coach Allegri instructed him from the sidelines: Christopher Nkunku should step up. A tense moment ensued, which was resolved when Nkunku, albeit not entirely convincingly, fired the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

After the break came Adrien Rabiot's big moment, as he scored twice to secure the victory for Milan. First, the Frenchman controlled the ball brilliantly in the penalty area and fired it into the far corner (55'), then his long-range shot found the back of the net with pinpoint accuracy (88'). Milan sit second in the table, three points behind city rivals Inter.
