At almost 40: Modric to lead Milan back to its former glory

Croatia's record international football player Luka Modric has presented his new employer after leaving Real Madrid.

The 39-year-old midfield star will play for AC Milan in the Italian Serie A next season. As the club announced, Modric signed a one-year contract with an option to extend until 2027. The deal had been agreed upon for a long time but was only finalized after the Club World Cup.

The six-time Champions League winner was denied a new contract at Real Madrid after 13 years. The Croatian national team captain played his last game for the Royal Club in the 0-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals of the Club World Cup in the USA.

At Milan, Modric will wear the number 14 on his jersey. "I'm very happy to be here to start a new chapter in my career," Modric said in a video clip on his Instagram account.
