Draw in the Derby della Capitale overshadowed by riots

The derby between Lazio and Roma lived up to its promise: an intense, hard-fought duel with a fair 1-1 final score. However, the sporting showdown was overshadowed by serious riots in the run-up to the match, which underscored the tense atmosphere in the Eternal City.

The Capital Derby between Lazio and AS Roma on Sunday evening was a highly intense encounter, ending in a fair 1-1 draw. After both teams virtually neutralized each other in the first half, the picture changed in the second. Lazio got off to a better start: In the 47th minute, central defender Alessio Romagnoli headed in the lead after a pinpoint cross from Luca Pellegrini. Roma, however, were unfazed and found the perfect response in the 69th minute when Matías Soulé finished off a stunning pass involving Saelemaekers and Cristante to equalize.

Even before kickoff, there were significant clashes between fan groups. Lazio ultras attempted to break through a police cordon near the Ponte Milvio to confront Roma supporters. Police used tear gas and water cannons to separate the groups. A total of seven police officers were injured, and burning garbage containers caused property damage.
