Thousands bid farewell to football icon Baresi
The funeral of Franco Baresi in Milan's Sant'Ambrogio Basilica triggered a wave of sympathy. Thousands of football fans, figures from sports and politics, and former teammates accompanied the Milan icon on his final journey.

His former teammates, including Marco van Basten, carried the coffin into the basilica, accompanied by choirs and chants from thousands of football fans: The funeral of Franco Baresi, who died at the age of 66, paralyzed large parts of Milan on Tuesday.
Numerous football colleagues from many professional clubs paid tribute to the World Cup winner and "Milanista of the Century" on his final journey. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona sent delegations to the funeral. FIFA laid a bouquet of flowers on Baresi's coffin, as did many Serie A clubs, the city of Milan, and the Lombardy region.
