David Wieser: “Would like to stay in Mantua”

David Wieser, a Serie B professional from Val Gardena, has managed to avoid relegation with newly promoted Mantova. Now the midfielder wants to take the next step and establish himself in Serie B.

David Wieser played 29 games for Mantova in the past Serie B season. That's impressive, even though the South Tyrolean only logged 835 minutes of playing time. That's set to change in the coming season, as Wieser is determined to stay in Mantua.

“I hope I stay,” Wieser said in an interview with Journal of Mantua He added: "I still want to give a lot to the city and the club. I really like it here, I'm physically fit, and I'm looking forward to getting back into action with the team." Wieser has a good rapport with coach Davide Possanzini. The confirmation of Roberto De Zerbi's former assistant coach as head coach could also help Wieser stay. "He implements his ideas and works on them with us every day," Wieser said of Possanzini, who boasts one of the highest ball possession rates in the league with Mantova.

Wieser is generally satisfied with his first Serie B season: "It was a very important year for me. I've matured enormously, thanks to the daily work in training and the support of the entire team. Of course, the level is much higher than in Serie C, but personally, the transition wasn't difficult for me. I was able to quickly find my feet in the new league. The only downside is that I wasn't more decisive on the pitch."
