a Serie B

Fabian Tait has extended his expiring contract with FC Südtirol.

The captain remains on board: Tait extends FCS contract

He has been the heart and soul of FC Südtirol for many years - including in this fairytale Serie B season. Now Fabian Tait has extended his contract with FCS long-term.

It is with great pleasure that South Tyrol's only professional football club announces that Fabian Tait has extended his expiring working paper until June 30, 2025 - with the option of a further season. Tait has been under contract with FC Südtirol since the summer of 2014 – almost 9 years. The midfielder, who lives in Salurn, learned to play football in his home village (at SV Salurn) and then also played for Mezzocorona and Marano Vicentino, in Serie C2 and Serie D respectively.

Tait is contesting his ninth championship with FC Südtirol this year, his first in Serie B. In total, he played 322 competitive games for the South Tyrolean professional club and scored 22 goals. As far as the all-time ranking of players with the most appearances is concerned, Tait is in third place (first place among players still active). Only Hans-Rudi Brugger (3) and Tait's friend Hannes Fink (1) are ahead of him in this rating.

Indispensable – even in Serie B

After Hannes Fink's resignation, he was named the team's new captain. Tait has played 2 matches in the second division so far and scored one goal each in Bari and Venice. This season, the 32-year-old impressively demonstrated his suitability for Serie B. The Salurner is an integral part of the Bisoli system and is a similar type of player to what his coach used to be. In any case, Tait is placed in central midfield. He fills a lot of holes there and is fundamental to the balance of the team.

“FC Südtirol holds a very special place in my heart. I have always said that this club is my second home. Continuing to play for the FCS fills me with great joy and pride. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people who have stood by me over all these years: this year's teammates, former teammates, coaches, officials, the sports director and my closest confidants. We have experienced great moments together, such as the promotion in Trieste and the numerous victories this season,” said Tait.
“I managed to turn my great passion into a career.” Fabian Tait

The midfield engine continued: “Nobody would have expected that we would have such a spectacular season this year. But in sport, as in life, it is often the unexpected moments that bring us the most joy. As captain of this team, I am fortunate to be able to count on the support of many leaders and leading players. I managed to turn my great passion into a career. This is nothing to be taken for granted, which is why I consider myself very lucky. I started with the amateurs and fought my way up to this point. I have experienced many great moments in my career and learned a lot both as a footballer and as a person.”
