The winners and losers of the FCS season

Staying in the league was set as the goal for the 2023/24 season. This was clearly achieved in the end. This time it wasn't enough to repeat last year's playoff fairytale, but that's not a disadvantage for planning for the coming season. This means there is more time for analysis, which is of course on the program after every season. But who has been the focus of the FCS this season? And who disappointed? The losers Pierpaolo Bisoli The successful coach from the previous year had to leave in December. It was an inglorious end to a short era that brought the FCS heights it had never dreamed of. Last year's playoff semi-final against Bari will go down in club annals. But it is also a fact that the feeling between Bisoli and the team was no longer the same afterwards. In retrospect, extending Bisoli's contract was a mistake - but who wouldn't have continued with a coach after such a fabulous season? Amney Moutassime The Italo-Moroccan came to Bozen with Federico Valente from SC Freiburg and - planned as a Primavera player - initially seemed to be on the sporting fast track. The 2-year-old made short appearances in Serie B twice. Then he found himself in the fast lane on the road and caused a real scandal. He caused an accident in the city center with a fellow player's stolen car. The dream of profit was of course over, and the faux pas also had criminal repercussions. Moutassime's escapade falls under the category: waste of talent.

matteo rover The offensive player has had a bitter season. In the summer, with Serie A in mind, Rover lost almost an entire season. First a dip in form, then a muscle injury slowed him down for months. In the end, he was only on the field for around 800 minutes. If Rover finds his way back to his old form over the months without playing, he will be like a new addition next season.

The summer new arrivals Almost none of the newcomers who came to the FCS in the summer of 2023 played a major role. Giuseppe Cuomo, Cristian Shiba, Luca Ghiringhelli, Lorenzo Lonardi and Andrea Cisco were complete flops. Nicola Rauti, Riccardio Ciervo, Daouda Peeters and Jeremy Broh were at least able to help the team sporadically. Nevertheless: Sports director Paolo Bravo did not cover himself with glory in the summer. The transfer window was by far the weakest since he joined the FCS.

The winners Andrea Masiello placeholder image The former Serie A defender is a luxury for Serie B. Even at 38, Masiello shows no signs of fatigue. Behind goalkeeper Poluzzi, the central defender collected the most minutes of play in the FCS. Masiello was on the field for a total of 3139 minutes. The only downside: Not playing against his former club Bari twice a year leaves a bad aftertaste. But that cannot be changed.

Danielle Casiraghi At 31, the attacking midfielder is in the prime of his career. Casiraghi has scored 17 goals. It doesn't matter whether many of them were penalties. In addition, Casiraghi is in top shape and has had virtually no downtime. Extremely impressive: Casiraghi was directly involved in 77 goal assists (from the game) in the FCS. For comparison: Tait is in second place in this statistic with 2. That alone shows how important Casiraghi is for the FCS. Irreplaceable.

Simone David From a South Tyrolean perspective, he is the rising star of the last few years. Davi fought his way from the top league to Serie B, where he is now an excellent left-back. The Leifer native is valuable in forward play and is the White-Reds' best player in defensive 1-on-1. It will be interesting to see where Davi's career path leads. Andrea Giorgini The 22-year-old is the high-flyer of the season. Giorgini started the season with 0 minutes in the previous season and ended up being a regular player. Only 5 FCS professionals accumulated more playing time than the defender. Strong: Giorgini was the White-Red player who blocked most of the opponent's shot attempts. In terms of balls started, he is in second place (behind Masiello) in the internal statistics.

Jasmine Kurtic The Slovenian came to Bolzano in the winter and needed some time to get started. But then he took the team and the fans' hearts by storm. The elegance of the Slovenian, who hopes to take part in the European Championships, was unique at the FCS. It's a shame: his constant knee problems, which also slowed him down in the finish.

Raphael Kofler The young Rablander has his first full professional season behind him. Kofler was on the field for 842 minutes in Serie B. Impressive: In percentage terms, he is number 17 in the FCS rankings with 1 intercepted balls. At 19 years old, the future belongs to him and he has great potential. Raphael Kofler has taken his first steps in the professional field.

Frederick Valente From U19 to a permanent solution with the professionals? At least that was the case last season. The Italian-Swiss was able to overcome the initial skepticism and has the team behind him. The FCS professionals cope excellently with Valente's style. In terms of sport, he achieved his goals. Highlights: The victories in Genoa (against Sampdoria) and the point win at home against champions Parma. Valente has given a good calling card to be able to work in South Tyrol next season.

The Association FC Südtirol is increasingly making a name for itself among the “big boys” in Italian football. A sign of this is also the new equipment contract that the White-Reds have concluded with the traditional Italian company “Errea”. The FCS is now a respected club that has earned an excellent reputation, primarily due to its serious way of working.
