A lucky point for FCS against the bottom team

After FC Südtirol were in a relegation playoff spot at Christmas, the Red and Whites have shown a new side since the start of the year. On Sunday, bottom-of-the-table Pescara visited the Drusus Stadium – but the team from Abruzzo proved to be a tough nut to crack.

On Sunday evening, under the floodlights, FC Südtirol played at home against bottom-of-the-table Pescara. However, FCS had been warned before the match: the visitors, featuring former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne (34), were on an upward trend and had won three of their last five games. FC Südtirol also struggled against the team from Abruzzo – the match ended in a goalless 0-0 draw.

The good news first: The relegation zone – meaning the relegation places – is becoming increasingly distant for FCS thanks to this point. The gap to the first relegation playoff spot is now seven points. The Red and Whites showed two different faces on Sunday: While the first half was plagued by one misplaced pass after another and the visitors clearly dominated, FCS controlled the game after the break – though they rarely created any real danger. Ultimately, the goalless draw was rather fortunate for FCS – the Red and Whites can also thank goalkeeper Marius Adamonis, who kept them in the game.

The highlight of the day, however, took place during halftime. On the pitch, former number 1 goalkeeper Giacomo Poluzzi was honored for his service to FC Südtirol. "Jack," as he is affectionately known, guarded the goal a total of 186 times. During his five and a half years in South Tyrol, Poluzzi was instrumental in the club's first-ever promotion to Serie B, and in their debut season in Italy's second division, FC Südtirol sensationally qualified for the playoffs.

"Forever in my heart"

On Sunday, "Jack," who moved to Ravenna in Serie C in February, cheered on his former teammates from the stands. "I want to thank everyone. My time at FC Südtirol was the best of my life. You will always have a place in my heart," a visibly moved Poluzzi told the supporters of the Red and Whites after his tribute. FCS presented their former goalkeeper with a framed jersey – which will likely find a special place in Poluzzi's home.

The evening in a nutshell

Adamonis shines against Lorenzo'sAfter an uneventful start, the visitors from Pescara took control. FCS goalkeeper Marius Adamonis prevented further damage: first, he saved a free kick from Lorenzo Insigne (20th minute), then he brilliantly tipped Lorenzo Berardi's effort around the post for a corner (36th minute).
FCS arrives in the gameAfter the change of ends, FC Südtirol can finally get their game going: After a warning shot from Emanuele Pecorino, a free kick from the side by Daniele Casiraghi flies past friend and foe into the goal area (65th minute).
Trembling until the endFCS captain Fabian Tait received a red card after a VAR review for a hard tackle (77'). Pescara increased the pressure until the final whistle, with Antonio Di Nardo having the best chance, but he fired wide from close range – a lucky escape for FC Südtirol (89').

FC Südtirol doesn't have much time to rest, as the Red and Whites are in the middle of another busy week: On Wednesday, FCS travels to Avellino (20 p.m.), and next Sunday Frosinone visits the Drusus Stadium (15 p.m.). Afterwards, the Serie B professionals will enter the final international break of the season.
