European Championship stars play in Bozen’s Drusus Stadium

On Saturday, August 3, the Drusus Stadium in Bolzano will be the venue for a top-class three-team tournament in which FC Südtirol will face two first division teams.

The FC Sudtirol will face the Serie A club and Champions League participant on 3 August Bologna FC and the German Bundesliga club VfL Bochum The international event will consist of three games of 60 minutes each, divided into two halves of 30 minutes each.


The three-way tournament begins at 17 p.m. with the match between FC Südtirol and Bochum. At 18.15 p.m. the Bundesliga team will face Bologna, while the final match between FCS and last year's fifth-placed team in Serie A will take place at 19.30 p.m.

Bologna with many European Championship players

Bologna can look back on an impressive club history with 78 seasons in Serie A, seven national championship titles, two Italian Cup victories, and other international successes. With fifth place in the 2023/24 Serie A championship - behind Inter, Milan, Juventus and Atalanta - Bologna sensationally qualified for the upcoming Champions League.

The new coach of the “Rossoblù” is Vincenzo Italiano, after successful coach Thiago Motta moved to Juve. The Bologna squad includes numerous European Championship participants such as the Swiss Remo Freuler, Dan Ndoye and Michel Aebischer as well as Austrian defender Stefan Posch. The Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee and the Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori are also in the squad. but have attracted a lot of interest on the transfer market. In any case, Bologna has announced that it will be holding a training camp in Vals from July 22 to August 3.

Bochum finished 16th in the Bundesliga and secured their place in the league after a nerve-wracking relegation duel with Fortuna Düsseldorf, which was decided on penalties. The first division team is coached by trainer Peter Zeidler. The club from the Ruhr region has taken part in a total of 37 Bundesliga championships and has twice achieved fifth place as its best placing, which allowed them to qualify for the UEFA Cup. Bochum will train in Gais this year from July 28 to August 4.
