Almost two dozen fans accompanied FC Südtirol on Friday to the away match against Juve Stabia, which ended with a 2-1 defeat and the dismissal of coach Marco Zaffaroni Four of them were attacked by ultras of the home team after the game.
They were just spending a pleasant evening with local fans in a bar in the town centre of Castellammare when alleged Juve Stabia ultras suddenly burst into the bar and took the FCS supporters' fan material - including the Curva Südt banner. As the situation outside the bar threatened to escalate, the bar owners called the emergency services. The four South Tyroleans subsequently spent several hours at the police station.
The Juve Stabia fans presented the stolen material on the Internet.
The group of 15 to 20 mainly young Stabiesi supporters who are said to have carried out the attack is already known to the police. The Curva Südt denies rumors that the FCS fans started singing against Neapolitans and southern Italians and thereby triggered an act of revenge. "It is absolutely not true that we uttered discriminatory words or sang songs, as some people on social networks are claiming," the fan group said in a statement, which continued: "We would like to thank the entire Castellammare community from the bottom of our hearts for the support and solidarity they showed us after the events."
Investigations and processing are ongoing
The supporters of FC Südtirol have now returned home safely. Now the scene needs to work through the incident. Curva Südt will comment on the future of its own group as soon as possible.Edit Profile
