FCS grades: Adamonis top, Pecorino unlucky

Adamonis 7,5 In the end, it was the often-criticized Lithuanian who kept FCS in the league. His save against Gytkjaer counts like a goal. Before and after that, he was a reliable presence in goal during Bari's (few) chances.

El Kaouakibi 6,5 Almost exclusively focused on defense, but that was to be expected. After all, it was a given that the Red and Whites would remain in the league without conceding a goal.

Pietrangeli 6,5 He stood like a rock in the defensive center and never allowed Bari's offensive department to come into its own.

Joy 6,5 What applies to his defensive colleagues also applies to the experienced Albanian. Bari never looked so dangerous that a goal against them seemed imminent.

Molina 7 Actually one of the best players in the FCS jersey, but also with a serious lapse in concentration before Piscopo's huge chance in the first half. That costs him half a point. Otherwise, he's incredibly important with his experience, a constant threat on the right wing. He was unlucky when he hit the post.

Frigerio 6 He did what Castori expected of him. He ran for his life in midfield.

FC Südtirol performed like a team again in the playouts.

Tronchin 6 Always there when he was needed. He played the classic defensive midfield role. He didn't take any risks. Why should he?

Casiraghi 6 Lots of dirty work, little glamour. The most technically gifted FCS player put the team first and did what the coaching staff asked of him. There was no need for flashes of brilliance yesterday; too much was at stake.

Simone Davi 6,5 He patrolled the left flank relentlessly. He attempted four long-range shots, but missed the target by a wide margin each time. Defensively, the Leiferer player was rock solid.

Pecorino 6,5 He scored what appeared to be the winning goal, but celebrated too soon. Disallowing the goal was a very questionable decision. His shove against Dickmann was there, but referee La Penna saw it and let play continue. A shame, his tremendous effort deserved a goal.

Merkai 6 The usual "fighting machine" in the FCS attack. He worked tirelessly, running for every ball, no matter how hopeless it seemed. He didn't create any dangerous scoring opportunities, but yesterday the team performance was all that mattered. Remarkably, he lasted the full 90 minutes plus stoppage time and celebrated winning a challenge in the 93rd minute like it was a goal. His mentality is unique.

Tait without a note He came on as the first FCS substitute in the 83rd minute. He diligently helped secure the goalless draw. Afterwards, the captain was celebrated by the FCS fans at the Drusus Stadium. Tait is and remains the FCS figurehead, especially among the home fans. On the pitch, however, he didn't play a major role in the relegation play-offs.

Odogwu without a grade A few minutes as a substitute. Came on in the 86th minute for Pecorino.

Crnigoj without a grade Substituted together with Odogwu (for Casiraghi) and quite noticeable in the final minutes.

Castori 7 So there it is, survival in Serie B. At 71 years old, Fabrizio Castori has now also successfully completed his first relegation playoff in Italy's second division. The experienced coach deserves praise for this. After a disastrous end to the season, he managed to rally the team enough to hold their own against Bari in the relegation battle. The opponent may have been extremely weak, and a Bari goal never seemed likely during the 180 minutes, but the mental challenge for Castori and his coaching staff was immense. Castori stayed focused and was successful in the relegation playoff. Even though he didn't win either of the two matches, the mission was accomplished. Defensively, Adamonis and his teammates allowed very little in either game – and when things did get dangerous, the FCS goalkeeper was there to make the save. The commitment shown by the FCS professionals was exemplary. Castori himself earned FCS's survival in Serie B. His work in South Tyrol was always honest and tough, though rarely exciting, stylistically beautiful, or even glamorous. Whether that's necessary in Serie B is debatable. The fact is: Castori achieved the minimum goal. Nothing more, but also nothing less.
