FCS grades: A wasted opportunity

Poluzzi 6 Hardly ever challenged. The 36-year-old didn't let himself down when it came to the few little things he had to do.

Kofler 6 Remained in the dressing room at half-time with a yellow card. Before that, he had a decent game defensively. Attentive in the tackles.

Pietrangeli 6,5 Strong performance in the center of defense, although there was little defensive work to be done for large parts of the game. His form curve is pointing upwards.

Giorgini 6,5 Returned to the starting line-up after serving a yellow card suspension. The strongest FCS defender in terms of play, although this was less evident yesterday. Solid defensively. Noticeable: Coached front man Zedadka in (almost) every action. Developing into a leader.

Molina 5,5 Neither fish nor fowl. You can expect more offensive action from a man of his class. There was too little action, especially during the power play, although FCS could have - if not should have - decided the game in this phase.

Martinis 6 As a birthday present (he turned 20 on Saturday), he was allowed to play from the start and did a decent job as a right-back. You can't expect any offensive fireworks from him, others would be responsible for that.

Praszelik 6 Somewhat surprisingly, the Pole was deployed as a number six in front of the defence. He was supposed to feed the FCS strikers with quick vertical passes. But he hardly managed that. He was OK against the ball - but he still doesn't seem to have really settled into FC Südtirol's game.

Casiraghi 5 2 yellow cards within just 20 minutes - that shouldn't happen to the experienced FCS vice-captain. It wasn't his game even before that. He made far too little of very good set pieces and had little influence on the game. His performance contributed a lot to the fact that the White-Reds were unable to pose a threat when they had a numerical advantage.

Zedadka 6 He delivered a few very interesting crosses into the box, but overall he wasn't very noticeable. He has little dynamism in his actions, which is why he sometimes seems a bit static.

Odogwu 6 A "monster" in the positive sense in the FCS attack. Former international players Caldara and Zaro had their hands full trying to tame the Italo-Nigerian. The downside: He posed no threat to the goal yesterday.

Merkai 6 His fighting spirit is admirable. He worked hard for Odogwu, who is relieved of almost all defensive duties. He was involved in the incident that led to Modena being shown a red card. But he was far too hasty in front of goal and lacked the technical skills for that.

El Kaouakibi 6 Came on for Kofler at half-time and didn't let anything go wrong. Decent performance.

Rover 5,5 Seconds after being substituted, Casiraghi was shown a yellow-red card. He had no offensive actions after that.

Arrigoni without a note The long-running hit was only in use for a few minutes yesterday.

Mallamo without a note Came on together with Arrigoni in the final phase.

Castori 5,5 FC Südtirol could have easily achieved 6 points in the last two games. In the end, they only got one and that is not enough. The fact is that FCS has not improved in most phases of the game since Valente left. The White-Reds lack ideas, especially with the ball. In the 45 minutes they were in the majority yesterday, FCS was unable to create a really dangerous goal-scoring opportunity.

Castori was unhappy with the Modena game.

The South Tyroleans would have to win precisely the kind of games that are presented to them on a silver platter. Castori was never a magician. He is a rock-solid Serie B coach who knows what to do in Italy's second division. But relying on that alone is not enough. His last two stops (Ascoli and Perugia) should be warning enough. The FCS does not have to be relegated this season, they are actually too good for that. But yesterday in Modena, the irrepressible will to win was not on display either. Instead, the White-Reds seemed to be satisfied with the 2:0 draw.

FCS grades: A wasted opportunity

FC Südtirol missed a golden opportunity to take home three points on Sunday. The white and reds played with a numerical advantage for more than half of the game, but their performance was not enough.
