“Glad to be back on the pitch”: The FCS is back

When the referee's kick-off sounds in the Drususstadion on Saturday at 14 p.m., FC Südtirol will be fighting for points for the first time in the 2024 calendar year. The opponent Feralpisalò is currently riding a wave of success - and wants to make life difficult for the white and red. Nevertheless, FCS coach Federico Valente seems relatively calm and hopeful.

FC Südtirol wants to get back to winning ways in the home game against Feralpisalò, who are currently bottom of the table, on Saturday (14 p.m.). But be careful: the guests from Lombardy experienced a very strong moment before the winter break. They collected a strong seven points against Cremonese (1:0), Sampdoria (3:2) and Venice (2:2). The fact that they are now in last place with 14 points is just a fact on paper that FC Südtirol should not rely too much on.

After two defeats in a row, the White-Reds are almost forced to react. However, at the press conference on Friday morning, FCS coach Federico Valente was confident. “The team has worked very well over the last ten days. We're happy that things are moving on now and can't wait to be back on the pitch tomorrow. The anticipation is huge.”

Feralpisalò is in good shape

Valente is aware that Feralpisalò is currently in very good shape. “You come to Bolzano at a good moment and with a broad chest. Seven points in three games definitely gives a team a lot of self-confidence. But we analyzed their game well and definitely want to win the match on Saturday. It will be important that we are on the pitch with the right intensity and try to steer the game in the right direction from the start.”

The FCS hopes rest on Daniele Casiraghi (Fotosport Bordoni).

FC Südtirol has so far announced three new additions in the winter transfer phase. In addition to Filippo Scaglia (Como) and Salvatore Molina (out of contract), the transfer of Jasmin Kurtic in particular caused a stir. However, he is not yet at 100 percent and will not start on Saturday - but a partial appearance should be possible. Molina was injured during practice (adductor injury) and is expected to miss FCS for up to three weeks. In general, the injury list for the White-Reds is almost endless: Daouda Peeters (calf problems), Matteo Rover (hamstring injury), Luca Ghiringelli (thigh injury) and Simone Davi (back problems) will not be available to Federico Valente.

FCS with a three-man chain?

Only new signing Scaglia will be on the pitch from the first minute – as central defender in a three-man chain. Because Valente should operate with a 1-3-5. Next to Scaglia are Andrea Masiello (left) and Raphael Kofler (right), who will play a friendly against Spain with the U-19 national team, to be found. Fabian Tait (six), Jeremie Broh, Daniele Casiraghi (both in eighth), Andrea Cagnano (left) and either Gabriel Lunetta or Riccardo Ciervo on the right are expected to play in midfield. Nicola Rauti and Silvio Merkaj are very likely to be deployed up front.

FC Südtirol reported further good news on Thursday, when it was announced that Stormtank Raphael Odogwu would be returning. It's probably not enough for a starting role, but the beefy Italian-Nigerian could celebrate his comeback as a joker - and help the white and red with his physical presence and his instinct for goal. One thing is certain: it won't be an easy game for FC Südtirol, but with the right mentality and a bit of luck, Valente could lead his team back to winning ways and calm the mind of sporting director Paolo Bravo, at least for the time being.
