FC Südtirol is making a change in the goalkeeper position: regular keeper Marius Adamonis is expected to leave the second division club, and a player with league experience was signed for him on Friday.

Alessandro Plizzari joins the South Tyrolean club on loan from newly promoted Serie A side Venezia. The 26-year-old Italian will remain with the club until June 30, 2027.

Plizzari was long considered one of the most promising goalkeeping talents of his generation. The goalkeeper from Crema (Lombardy) was trained in the youth academy of AC Milan, where he was already part of the professional squad as a teenager and became the first player born in the new millennium to be nominated for a Serie A match.

Plizzari subsequently gained experience at several loan clubs in Serie B, including Ternana, Livorno, Reggina, and Lecce. In 2022, he made a permanent move to Pescara, where he developed into a key player.

Unforgettable in Pescara, only a substitute in Venice

The goalkeeper experienced his greatest career moment so far in the 2024/25 season: With Pescara he led the club back to Serie B via the playoffs and became the promotion hero in the decisive second leg against Ternana with three saved penalties.

Subsequently, Venezia signed the goalkeeper permanently, but he never progressed beyond the role of reserve in the lagoon city. After two appearances in the Italian Cup and winning the Serie B championship, the next step in his career is now imminent: The goalkeeper is set to play for FC Südtirol next season.

Plizzari also gained extensive experience at the international level. With Italy's youth national teams, he won bronze at the 2017 U20 World Championship and silver at the 2018 U19 European Championship; he also played five games for the U21 team.
