FC Südtirol has signed its eighth new player. This time it's a top-class midfielder who is expected to increase the team's creativity.

Matteo Lovisa continues to rebuild FC Südtirol. For weeks, Aljosa Vasic had been one of his desired players for central midfield. On Saturday, the new sporting director watched the 24-year-old in person at Palermo's friendly match against 1. FC Nürnberg in Vahrn. Two days later, the deal was finalized. FCS has signed Vasic on a one-year loan from Palermo. Vasic, who is expected to give the midfield a fresh look alongside Niklas Pyyhtiä, will be part of the squad.

Vasic was born in Camposampiero (Province of Padua) and holds both Italian and Serbian citizenship. He was trained in Padua's youth academy. With the exception of one season at Cittadella, the versatile midfielder, who can also play in the number 10 position, progressed through the entire youth system at Padua's youth academy, all the way to the first team.

Extensive experience with 24

After a loan spell at Lecco, Vasic made his breakthrough at his parent club in the 2022/23 season, scoring eight goals in 37 appearances. Based on his impressive performances in the third division, Palermo paid two million euros for Vasic three years ago. With the "Rosanero," Vasic made his Serie B debut and has made at least 20 appearances in each of the past three seasons. Last season, he also played 45 minutes in the second leg of the playoff semi-final against Catanzaro.

At the international level, Vasic has four appearances for the Serbian U21 national team. "The move to FC Südtirol fills me with great joy. Even in my initial discussions with the club, I got the impression that it is an extremely professional and structured club that operates according to a clear way of working. These were decisive factors for me in my decision," said Vasic, who was also being pursued by Mantova.
