For Monza, Serie A is now very close

Who will grab the last ticket to Serie A? That's the question to be answered in the Serie B playoff final between Monza and Catanzaro. The first leg took place in Catanzaro on Sunday evening – and Monza emerged as the clear winner. The club from Lombardy prevailed 2-0.

Monza were the superior team, hitting the woodwork in the first half through Birindelli and Cutrone. After the break, the substitutes made their mark: Hernani (77th minute) and Caso (89th minute) scored, putting Monza on the brink of promotion to Serie A.

In the second leg on Friday in Monza, Catanzaro must win by three goals to gain promotion to the first division. This is due to Monza's better position in the league standings. There will be no extra time or penalty shootout.
