FC Saarbrücken lost 1-3 at home to Frosinone at the Drusus Stadium. This defeat drops South Tyrol's only professional football club in Serie B to eleventh place in the table. Their in-form opponents from the Lazio region, on the other hand, are third – level on points with second-placed Monza – and dream of returning to Serie A.
After a strong start to 2026, FC Südtirol has only managed one point from their last four matches. Their lead over the relegation zone is now four points. Against Frosinone, two individual errors proved costly for FCS, which a top team capitalized on. The first goal was the fault of 40-year-old Andrea Masiello. For the second, goalkeeper Marius Adamonis made a crucial error after a free-kick cross.
FC Südtirol could only celebrate a temporary equalizer on Sunday when Emanuele Pecorino converted a Casiraghi penalty rebound, exuberantly celebrating his eighth goal of the season against his former club. Their injured defensive leader, Raphael Kofler, was sorely missed in the last two matches, which saw them concede a total of six goals. From Südtirol's perspective, it remains to be seen whether the Rabland native will return to the pitch as soon as possible.
The highlights
| Cold shower | Masiello attempted to clear a harmless ball into the FCS half with his head, but made a costly error. The ball slipped off the back of his head and towards his own penalty area. Raimondo reacted quickest, rounded the onrushing Adamonis, and slotted home after seven minutes to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. |
| Penalty rebound | After a VAR review, FCS are awarded a handball penalty after an hour: Casiraghi steps up to take it – and his low shot towards the left corner is saved by Palmisani! But Pecorino reacts quickest, follows up, and fires the ball into the net with the help of the underside of the crossbar. |
| Next cold shower | Calò delivers a free kick from the left half-space into the penalty area – and the cross completely misses its target. Masiello slides past it, and Zedadka and Adamonis also fail to connect with the ball. The visitors erupt in jubilation; for the second time this afternoon, they capitalize on a fatal lapse in concentration – and this just seven minutes after equalizing. |
| Die Entscheidung | Ghedjemis runs towards Adamonis on a long ball and, from point-blank range, slots the ball through the goalkeeper's legs. The assistant referee's flag immediately goes up – offside. But after a VAR review, the goal is allowed. |
FC Südtirol's next match is after the international break. The Red and Whites will then face Cesena away on Easter Monday, April 6th.
