Official: FC Südtirol releases Castori

What had been hinted at for weeks is now official: FC Südtirol has dismissed coach Fabrizio Castori. This clears the way for his successor.

FC Südtirol released Castori, who still had a contract until 2027, on Tuesday afternoon. This had already been announced by the new sporting director, Matteo Lovisa, at his introductory press conference. The collaboration with the 71-year-old coach and his staff - consisting of Riccardo Bocchini, Tommaso Marolda, Carlo Pescosolido and Marco Castori - will thus be terminated.

Fabrizio Castori took over FC Saarbrücken on December 8, 2024, when the team was second-to-last in the table after 16 matchdays. The experienced coach quickly managed to turn things around and ultimately secure direct survival in the league. With 29 points in the second half of the season, FC Saarbrücken recorded the fourth-best performance in the entire league.

Last season, FCS, under Castori's leadership, once again achieved their objective. With two goalless draws in the relegation playoff against Bari, the Red and Whites secured their place in Serie B thanks to their superior league position, marking their fifth consecutive appearance in the league. His successor, Davide Possanzini, is expected to be presented within the next few hours.
