Raphael Kofler scores the first FCS point

Even during preseason, everyone was talking about Raphael Kofler. The 20-year-old from Rabland has taken the famous next step and is simply a real physical force: In the 1-1 draw in Catanzaro, Kofler had given his FC Südtirol a 1-0 lead at one point. Only Catanzaro captain Pietro Iemello crashed the FCS party with his beautiful goal after the hour mark.

FC Südtirol put in a strong performance overall in Calabria. Fabrizio Castori's men clearly dominated the first half and could have extended their lead even further after Kofler's early goal. The hosts from Catanzaro came into the game better in the second half and ultimately earned a not undeserved point.

For FCS, long-time pillars Fabian Tait and Raphael Odogwu started on the bench. Two new signings, Mamadou Coulibaly and Simone Tronchin, were preferred in midfield alongside Daniele Casiraghi. Up front, Emanuele Pecorino (who played a strong first half) played alongside the eye-catching Silvio Merkaj. The highlights Kofler!!! After 13 minutes, Raphael Kofler scored FCS's first goal of the Serie B season: Following a free kick, the Rabland native jumped high in the center and gave FCS the lead with a spectacular header. The ball found the far corner, and Kofler turned to celebrate. Merkaj fails A huge opportunity for FCS. After a great pass from Casiraghi, Merkaj storms toward goal in the 55th minute, but Pigliacelli makes a superb save. Iemello worth seeing Iemello equalized for Catanzaro after the hour mark: The Catanzaro captain curled the ball into the top corner from 20 meters. Adamonis had no chance with this beautiful goal. Incidentally, it was Kofler's second goal in Serie B in 47 matches. Interest from Serie A is sure to keep coming. FC Südtirol's next match is at home against Sampdoria next Sunday (19 p.m.).
