“Really hot”: A celebrity son wants to outcook the FCS opponents

For many football fans, Filipe Bordon is arguably the most interesting signing of the FCS transfer summer. This is partly due to the fact that the tall Brazilian won the U20 South American Championship with the "Selecao" just a few months ago. But it's primarily his last name that has FCS fans sitting up and taking notice.

Bordon? There was something! That's right, Marcelo Bordon once played in Brazil's star-studded squad and was one of the Bundesliga's best central defenders for over a decade. Marcelo is the father of Filipe Bordon, the new FCS player. His son, who shares a similarly imposing stature with his father, also plays in central defense.

But that's not all, because there's a third Bordon in the group, and he's also a defender. "Exactly, my brother Ricardo is a year younger, he plays for Lazio's Primavera team," reveals Filipe Bordon. Last year, they formed a defensive duo in Rome, and now the older of the two brothers is set to make his breakthrough in the second division in South Tyrol.

Of course, the curious family history is the number one topic of conversation when SportNews meets with the Brazilian for an interview at FC Südtirol's training camp. Filipe Bordon is used to talking about his father. "It doesn't bother me, quite the opposite," he says, "he's a role model for me, a person I can look up to. I benefit from his experience." Bordon's father made 2000 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart and Schalke in the early 297s, playing 71 international matches. He ended his career in Qatar in 2011.

Father's South Tyrol tip Filipe Bordon was born in Brazil but grew up in Germany for the first six years of his life. "I have to say right away that I don't speak a word of German; Italian is much easier for me," he grins. Yet his German past also has something to do with his move to FC Südtirol. "The work ethic and professionalism in South Tyrol are comparable to that in Germany. My father also made that clear to me when we examined FC Südtirol and the region together before signing the contract." “We hear from each other every day, after every game, after every training session.” Philip Bordon Marcelo Bordon now lives in the small Brazilian town of Ribeirão Preto, where he runs a soccer school and works on social projects. "Nevertheless, we talk to each other every day, after every game, after every training session. And in the fall, he'll come to visit me with the whole family," says the young man with blond highlights.

Filipe Bordon's eyes sparkle as he talks about his family, his girlfriend in Brazil, and the fond memories from his last vacation home. However, there's one more topic where he sheds all shyness and launches into the flow of his speech: cooking. "I'm a modest boy, but I'll say one thing quite consciously: I can cook. I love cooking. In Rome, I shared an apartment with my brother, and we constantly had guests over for dinner."

U20 national player and hobby chef Bordon truly blossoms when he talks about his skills in the kitchen. "I prefer well-seasoned, even really spicy. Brazilian dishes are a bit special, but I also enjoy cooking pasta and the like." For him, working in the kitchen is not just a passion, but "also a way to relax." “We Brazilians don’t play with the ball, we dance with it” Philip Bordon Bordon also needs a balance to his stressful football routine, as it's the only way he can deliver top performances on the pitch and work toward his dreams, he says. "The Champions League, winning big trophies – that's what every kid dreams about." His role model on the pitch isn't just his father, but primarily the Spaniard Sergio Ramos. "I've studied so many videos of him. He combines agility and explosiveness, simply fascinating."

The curious thing about the whole thing: When we asked FCS captain Fabian Tait about Bordon's characteristics, the first words that came to mind were explosiveness and physical presence. But he also added: "Of course, he's strong on the ball." Bordon couldn't help but smile: "We Brazilians don't play with the ball, we dance with it. Technically, we're all well-trained, but I also try to bring toughness and composure to the table."

Whether Bordon will succeed in this Serie B endeavor right away remains to be seen. Although he was already under contract with fourth-division club Ferroviária in Brazil, he is still waiting for his first professional appearance. "I know I still have an incredible amount to learn. But that's why I'm here. I want to absorb everything, I want to take a leaf out of the book from Tait, Masiello, and the others." In his first friendly against St. Georgen last Saturday, the central defender, who can also play in defensive midfield, clearly showed his potential.

First professional appearances, and then? Bordon's loan contract with Lazio expires in the summer of 2026. "We'll see what happens after that." Now, for the first time, the South American will attempt to take small steps in his father's enormous footsteps. That means establishing himself at FC Südtirol and, at the same time, not only wielding the cooking spoon off the field, but also thoroughly outwitting second-division opponents.
