A test of equal strength: FC Südtirol keeps a clean sheet

In their second pre-season friendly, FC Südtirol fought to a draw against a German second division team.

FC Südtirol played to a 0-0 draw in a friendly match against German second-division side 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The game, played at the Sterzing sports complex, was another step in the Red and Whites' preseason preparations. Just a few days ago, coach Davide Possanzini's team... already warmed up against the Ridnaun Valley selection with eight goals.

In front of around 2.000 spectators, the match initially developed into an even contest with few clear scoring opportunities. FCS, equipped with the new home jerseyKaiserslautern defended compactly and allowed the Palatinate side few shots on goal. However, the first opportunity of the match belonged to 1. FC Kaiserslautern: Captain Ritter tried a powerful shot inside the penalty area, but Plizzari made a strong reflex save (4th minute).

The goalkeeper of the Red and Whites distinguished himself again in the 41st minute, when he parried a spectacular left-footed volley from Skyttä following a corner kick. In between, FC Südtirol created two promising opportunities: In the 22nd minute, a precise cross from Merkaj was cleared at the last second by the opposing defense. Three minutes later, the FCS striker narrowly missed a cross from Pyyhtiä after Tronchin had won the ball back high up the pitch (25th minute).

Valuable stress test for the FCS

At halftime, coach Possanzini substituted the entire starting lineup – with the exception of Molina – while the German second-division side also made numerous personnel changes. The Red and Whites continued their proactive performance in the second half, consistently implementing the principles practiced during the first few weeks of training.

In the 69th minute, Kaiserslautern striker Berisha attempted a left-footed diagonal shot after a pass from Kanate, but put the ball over the bar. Five minutes later, Adamonis thwarted a chance from Tazemeta thanks to an early clearance (74th minute). After one minute of added time, the match in Sterzing ended in a goalless draw. For FC Südtirol, it was a valuable test against an ambitious second-division side from Germany, in which the team displayed a solid defense throughout the entire match.

A friendly match against St. Georgen is coming up.

Since July 19th, FC Saarbrücken has been holding its traditional training camp in the Ridnaun Valley, where further training sessions are planned. A friendly match against the Oberliga side ASC St. Georgen is scheduled for next Tuesday. Kick-off at the Stange sports complex near Ratschings is at 5:30 pm.

To conclude the first phase of summer preparation on August 1st, a blitz tournament will be held in the Drusus Stadium with the two South Tyrolean Serie D clubs Virtus Bozen and FC Obermais.
