a Serie B

Venezia is on the rise, but the excitement behind them remains high.

Venezia can rejoice and celebrate their return to Serie A – but behind them, the tension in Serie B is almost unbearable: Whether in the promotion race or in the relegation battle, everything is still at stake on the last matchday.

Venezia (79 points) secured promotion to Serie A on Friday. A 2-2 draw against La Spezia was enough for the league leaders to clinch their place in Italy's top flight with one matchday remaining.

Venezia's early return to Serie A was made possible by Monza's (75 points) simultaneous defeat against Mantova. The third-placed team conceded the decisive goal in stoppage time, losing 2-3. Fahern Yahia-Benaissa's late goal ensured that Monza could no longer catch Venezia.

Nothing is decided yet at the top of the table: Monza has the edge in their direct duel with Frosinone (78 points) and could still secure the second automatic promotion spot with a win and a Frosinone loss on the final matchday. Frosinone, in turn, is hoping for a slip-up from Venezia to clinch the Serie B title at the end of the season.

South Tyrol in the midst of the relegation battle

The situation remains exciting at the bottom of the table as well, where FC Südtirol (40 points) is still in the thick of the fight to avoid relegation. (Click here for the match report of the game against Sampdoria)The Red and Whites still face relegation if they fail to score points against Juve Stabia on the final matchday and Entella (39 points) simultaneously win or draw. Bari, with 37 points, is three points behind South Tyrol, but cannot overtake them due to their loss in the head-to-head match. Empoli (40 points) is also not yet safe from relegation.

Below them are three teams – Pescara, La Spezia, and Reggiana – all with 34 points and in direct relegation spots. All three still have a chance of avoiding relegation to the play-offs – and could thus send Bari down to Serie C. One thing is clear: only one of these four teams will make it to the decisive match; for the others, it's relegation.
