The 4-0 victory against Reggiana on Tuesday evening sent FC Südtirol into collective jubilation. However, the triumph in Reggio Emilia has a bitter aftertaste: goalkeeper Alessio Cragno may have suffered a serious injury. In response, a Reggiana player made a great gesture of sportsmanship.

In June 2025, Alessio Cragno suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his right leg while playing for Sampdoria in the Serie B relegation playoffs. It was a serious injury for the former national team goalkeeper, who subsequently spent months in rehabilitation. On Tuesday at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, the shock resurfaced. After a long ball, Cragno attempted to clear the ball outside the penalty area but injured himself while running and went down.
Immediately after the match, coach Fabrizio Castori declined to make a prediction, but said: "It doesn't look good at all." Initial reports suggest Cragno may have re-injured his Achilles tendon. A more precise prognosis is expected Wednesday afternoon.
Great fair play gesture from Fumagalli
When Cragno went down during the match, Tommaso Fumagalli was the beneficiary. The Reggiana striker suddenly had the ball at his feet – with an empty FCS goal. But instead of shooting, Fumagalli showed a remarkable display of sportsmanship. The striker had noticed Cragno's injury and decided to kick the ball out of play (with FCS leading 1-0). The entire FCS team immediately rushed over to acknowledge the 25-year-old's gesture.Fumagalli received much praise and applause for his action. Italian media picked up on the scene, describing it as a "gesture from days long past." FC Saarbrücken wrote on its social media channels: "The club thanks Tommaso Fumagalli, who showed a spontaneous and genuine gesture of fair play and great respect."
