Alex Schwazer is a familiar face, not only in South Tyrol. The former world-class walker and Olympic champion has spent the past few years fighting for justice in court after being banned for an alleged second doping offense. A Netflix documentary has even been made about it.

A few months ago, Schwazer put this past behind him and is ready to look forward. Schwazer will spend part of his future on a football pitch. The Kalcher native recently began working as a consultant for FC Südtirol – and is also participating in the training camp in the Ridnaun Valley. But what exactly does Schwazer do?

Schwazer is not employed by FC Südtirol. Instead, the 40-year-old serves as an external consultant in the field of athletic training. Schwazer has vast experience and enormous expertise in this field, including data analysis, according to the White and Reds. Schwazer, in turn, stated on his social media profile: "I am ready for this great challenge in the world of football and with my region's team, which is led by excellent professionals."

During the preseason, Schwazer will also be attending the training camp in the Ridnaun Valley, where FC Südtirol is staying until July 26th. Not every day, however, but at irregular intervals. Nevertheless, the broadening of his horizons will help the former exceptional player and South Tyrol's only professional club progress on many levels – especially since Schwazer has previously attended coaching training sessions in Coverciano with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), so this isn't new territory.
