On Friday, Carrarese played a friendly against Serie A club Fiorentina. Thanks to a brace from international Moise Kean, the favorites prevailed 2-0. The match was special from a South Tyrolean perspective, as two local players, Simone Zanon and Emanuele Zuelli, were in the starting lineup. Read the story of how Zuelli and Zanon ended up at the 12th place in the last Serie B season here.
Carrarese will hone his form at the Altenburg Sports Center until August 8. Antonio Calabro's team will also play two friendlies during this time. On Sunday, August 3, Zanon & Co. will face Serie A club Lecce. The day before departure, on Thursday, August 7, they will face FC Kaltern in a friendly.
Duel against Serie A club
Carrarese was one of the big surprises in Serie B last season. The club, which returned to the Italian lower division last year after a 76-year absence, managed to avoid relegation despite a slump after the turn of the year (five consecutive defeats). The club has reason to celebrate even before the league starts. In recent days, a project to modernize the aging Stadio dei Marmi was approved. The first phase of the project includes the construction of a new grandstand with approximately 2400 seats and a bar. The second phase, which will include the area below the grandstand as well as new changing rooms and restrooms next to the office building, is planned for the end of next season.
