FC Obermais played to a 0-0 draw against Brian Lignano. For the first time in Serie D history, the Merano team stayed overnight at their away game. Lignano Sabbiadoro, a well-known holiday and party resort on the Adriatic coast, is about 320 kilometers from Merano. The bus journey takes around four and a half hours. Therefore, the Toccoli-coached team traveled from South Tyrol on Saturday afternoon. The match was played at the "Stadio Guido Teghil," which has a capacity of over 5.000 spectators.
Manuel Brusco started on the bench for Obermais. The top scorer was substituted on in the 70th minute. Obermais' defense has become very solid. Their fourth away point of the season resulted in a deserved draw. Lignano were the better side in the first half, and Obermais had goalkeeper Luca Tenderini to thank for keeping them in the game. After the break, the visitors improved and almost snatched a winner in stoppage time through Edoardo Ghiotti.
The situation in the relegation battle
Although Obermais has a six-point cushion above the relegation zone, they must be doubly careful: the teams in 13th to 16th place must enter the relegation playoffs. However, the gap between the 16th-placed team, which will face the 13th-placed team in the playoffs, and the bottom of the table, cannot exceed seven points. Otherwise, the third-to-last team in Serie D will also be relegated directly to the Oberliga. Currently, this gap is exactly seven points.Next Sunday, Obermais faces a direct relegation battle on their home turf at the Lahn. They host Calvi Noale, currently fourth from bottom, in South Tyrol.
