An entire season was at stake for FC Obermais on Sunday afternoon. The Merano-based team needed a win or a draw to keep their hopes of reaching the relegation play-offs alive. Now it's official: the FCO drama continues.

It was arguably the most important away game FC Obermais played in their first Serie D season. The Merano-based team faced a direct relegation battle against San Luigi in Trieste on Sunday. Losing was not an option, and FCO managed to avoid defeat. However, the 1-1 draw against San Luigi means another decisive match is now required to determine which team will participate in the relegation play-offs. Their opponent will again be San Luigi, and again away from home.

The Obermais team embarked on their away journey on Saturday and spent the night in Koper, Slovenia, just over 20 kilometers from Trieste. Sunday's match started disastrously for the Blue and Whites: FCO began nervously and conceded the first goal after a short time. Gabriele De Nuzzo put San Luigi in the lead (17').

The dream of staying in the league lives on

As the game progressed, the visitors grew into it and created several chances. FC Obermais capitalized on one of these after the break, leveling the score through Mamadou Ngom (53'). Both teams subsequently had opportunities to score the winning goal, but neither could find the net. Thus, San Luigi and FC Obermais parted ways with a deserved 1-1 draw.

This results in another decisive match between the two teams, which is expected to be played next Sunday. The winner will face Vigasio in the relegation playoff (away), while the loser will be relegated to the Oberliga along with Portogruaro and Adriese. Calvi Noale and Luparense, on the other hand, secured their survival on the final matchday and will play in Serie D again next season.
