Kilian Bauernfeind is a likeable guy. With his easygoing manner and highly professional attitude, the Zillertal native is a perfect fit for FC Obermais. On Sunday, the 23-year-old scored his first Serie D goal.

“Finally,” Bauernfeind chuckled after the gate to the 2:0 against Vigasio. “I’m extremely happy that I finally scored my first goal.” Since the switch to a back four, Bauernfeind has been playing more offensively. “In the last few days, everyone has been telling me I should shoot more often.” He’s come close to scoring several times in recent weeks. Against San Luigi, the Austrian had a chance to make it 2-0, but he didn’t put the ball in the net. The game ended in defeat. That’s why Bauernfeind said after the home win against Vigasio: “This win is extremely important, especially for my confidence.”

The ball is in: The moment of Kilian Bauernfeind's first Serie D goal.

Bauernfeind, who was trained at the Tirol Academy in Innsbruck and later played professional football for Wattens, Dornbirn, and Horn, is very popular in Obermais and a key player for coach Flavio Toccoli – even though he surprisingly started on the bench against Vigasio. "I feel very comfortable in the team and look forward to playing for Obermais every Sunday," said Bauernfeind.

Toccoli: "We need more of these services"

Not only Bauernfeind was happy after the home victory, but also his coach. Toccoli's team had often dropped points in recent weeks due to individual errors. This time it was different: "We played our game, just like in the previous matches. But we didn't make any mistakes; the team played very precisely." The victory was of enormous importance, according to Toccoli. "We need more performances like this in the coming weeks. Everyone believes in it," said the coach regarding their goal of staying in Serie D.
