Home poker in the relegation battle: Obermais continues to fight

FC Obermais have made a strong statement in the Serie D relegation battle! The South Tyrolean team secured a clear victory in their home game in Sinich against direct rivals Portogruaro and have moved out of the relegation zone.

FC Obermais has climbed back above the relegation zone. A 4-0 home win over Portogruaro saw South Tyrol's only Serie D club overtake Adriese and move into a relegation playoff spot after 22 matchdays. The next direct clash against Campodarsego is already scheduled for next Sunday.

Obermais' 4-0 home win against Portogruaro can safely be classified as a "must-win" victory. Flavio Toccoli's team absolutely had to win against the bottom-of-the-table side; otherwise, their situation would have become very difficult. While the situation is still far from easy, Manuel Brusco and his teammates will head into their away match against Campodarsego (Sunday, 2:30 p.m.) with confidence after this home win.

Brusco's double goal and debut for new signing

Brusco also scored a brace (21st/51st minute) against Portogruaro. The Trentino native now has eight goals in 19 games, a respectable tally. The first goal of the match, however, belonged to Tizian Stecher. The Mals player hit the woodwork after just a few moments but made up for it eight minutes later. The fourth goal was scored by Kilian Bauernfeind. Nikolas Spalek provided two assists. The technically gifted former Serie A player clearly preferred the artificial turf in Sinich to the battered natural grass pitches at this time of year.

In the closing stages, Mamadou Ngom came close to scoring his first goal of the season, but the Obermais winter signing was also unlucky, hitting the woodwork (70'). Sebastian Leimhofer also made his Serie D debut. The midfielder from Lower Austria, a bit of a footballing artist with a knack for tricks, joined FCO from the Czech third division in the winter.
