Cycling to the Obermais game in Trieste

Daniel Mazza is a football icon from Obermais and a true eccentric. Now, the former player and assistant coach of the Serie D club has delivered another "proof of love" to his beloved club.

Daniel Mazza is a well-known name in South Tyrolean football. The former defender was a key player for FC Obermais for many years, despite – or perhaps even because of – his unconventional style. His handstand somersaults, which he performed on the pitch during (!) matches, were legendary.

On the other hand, Mazza was a tough opponent, a real "fighter," and a fantastic footballer. Long-time FCO coach Martin Klotzner, in particular, was always a supporter of Mazza, later bringing him onto his coaching staff as an assistant.

On Sunday, Mazza, who earns his living as a filmmaker and is also the bassist in a rock band, added another chapter to his legendary status on the Lahn River. The Obermais native cycled the approximately 400 kilometers from Merano to Trieste (the club's longest away trip of the Serie D season). Mazza arrived at the San Luigi stadium just in time for kickoff.

Incidentally, the long bike tour was not a new experience for Mazza: The former footballer regularly goes on longer tours with his bicycle.
